A blood test involves taking a small sample of blood to help assess your overall health and wellbeing. Blood tests can be used to monitor existing conditions, check how organs are functioning, assess vitamin and mineral levels, review hormone levels, and provide valuable insights into your general health.
-
Most blood tests are quick and usually take only a few minutes. A tourniquet is placed around your arm to make the vein easier to access, and a small needle is gently inserted into a vein, usually inside the elbow or wrist. You may feel a brief scratch or pinch.
Once the sample has been collected, the needle is removed and pressure is applied to the area to help stop any bleeding and reduce the chance of bruising. Mild bruising can occasionally occur.

Many blood tests can be booked without a referral, allowing patients to access testing quickly and conveniently. However, some specialised tests may require a referral from your GP or consultant. If you are unsure which test you need, please contact us and we will be happy to guide you.
-
The turnaround time for blood test results can vary depending on the type of test being carried out. Many routine blood tests may be available as early as the next working day, while some specialised tests can take a little longer. You will be advised of the expected timeframe at your appointment.

Results are securely provided following laboratory analysis. For self-referred testing, results may be issued directly to patients or forwarded to their chosen healthcare provider upon request. Blood tests requested by a GP OR consultant may be returned directly to the requesting clinician.
